WHAT MAKES ‘MORTAL ENGINE’ IS A SCI-FI MOVIE?

Peter Jackson’s upcoming movie, ‘Mortal Engines’, might prove to be a gigantic sci-fi blockbuster if it is as good as the trailer. Given Jackson’s previous heists and the assistance of an A-team working alongside, the upcoming sci-fi flick could be worth watching. While his A-team consists of Christian Rivers as the main director of the movie, the flick might still have Jackson’s originality at par with the storyline.

Fans have already waited 17 years for the movie to come out. The movie couldn’t make the screens in 2008 because Jackson had been bowled over by The Hobbit, and somehow, couldn’t invest time into filming Mortal Engines in New Zealand. However, with everything back in check, the movie is all set to grace the cinema this December.

Let us all delve into the set of Mortal Engines and discuss things that make it a pure sci-fi one.

THE SIDE-EFFECTS OF AN ATOMIC WAR:

Mortal Engines is built on a post-apocalyptic dystopia that currently involves Europe and engulfed parts of Asia as well. This is all due to an atomic war that lasted for sixty minutes between America and China approximately 1700 years ago. The war ended, and with it, took away most of the human civilization and development as well.

DARWIN’S EVOLUTIONTHEORYAS MUNICIPAL DARWINISM:

Inspired by Darwin’s evolutionary theories, Quirke created the principle of Municipal Darwinism which can be seen in the movie at large. Since most of the civilization has wiped out, cities and towns are actually on wheels, rampaging to and forth to break down their smaller counterparts to gain resources and various other parts such as fuel.

A MORE TECHNICAL STYLE OF SOCIAL CLASSES:

These cities on wheels are called Traction Cities, and here, we come to terms with London Traction City that is all set to tear down smaller cities by terrorizing them. Each traction city consists of three tiers, which is divided in accordance to the class system. Whenever a traction city engulfs a smaller city, it brings it to the ‘Gut’ where it is broken down by the lower class.

REBELS WITH THEIR POWERS ATACK LONDON:

Hester Shaw, the female lead played by Hera Hilmar, is all set to rebel against London Traction City with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) and Anna Fang (Jihae). Everyone will probably see Hugo Weaving in the Hugo Weaving Mortal Engines as a historian and the franchise’s main villain (read London’s hero).

THADDEUS KILLS TO GET WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION:

There is a lot more to discuss about Thaddeus Valentine other than his Thaddeus Valentine Mortal Engine Black Coat that has undoubtedly, helped him get into character. Known as London Traction City’s self-proclaimed and righteous archeologist, Thaddeus Valentine might just get to prove his villainy by (spoiler alert) killing Hester Shaw’s family, and Anna Fang in the quest to retrieve a weapon of mass destruction known as Medusa.

The fact that people aren’t ready to see Hera Hilmar as the cast might come off as a surprise  since she might not be as timid as viewers expect her to be. Also, seeing Robert Sheehan as her male counterpart is actually interesting, since after his role in the Misifts TV series, fans are a bit excited to see him emerge on the bigger screen once again.

So now we know why Hester Shaw is leading the rebellion against London Traction City – She is not only spited by Thaddeus Valentine’s existence, and how London treats him as an idol, but is also set onto take her family’s revenge and bring peace within the dystopian society once and for all.  The movie is a lot more than just its infamous Mortal Engines Black Coat, which you’d probably adorn this winter with a parka ready to protect you from the extra chills of the cinema.
