‘’VENOM’’ VS ‘’A STAR IS BORN’’- THE BATTLE OF THE BOX OFFICE

What did you watch the last weekend? The full-packed, over the top action film Venom or is romance and drama like A Star Is Born more of your kind of movie? Even though both movies did relatively good on the box office, but Venom comes out to be on the top with the biggest October opening in Hollywood history. It doesn’t happen very often when a pair of highly anticipated movies both open on the same weekend and it turns out to be a good news for both of them.

Although Venom is not a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is anticipated to be the first in the series of a completely new Spider-man adjoining cinematic universe called Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters. 

However, there can only be one movie on the number 1 position at the box office and Variety reports, this time around this honor goes to Venom. The Tom Hardy starring Marvel movie made an impressive amount of $80 million domestically just over its opening weekend, and a total of $125.2 million around the world.

The blockbuster performance of Venom has effortlessly attracted thousands of Marvel comic fans around the world. As Variety says it, Venom is the biggest October opening for any movie in the history. This not so superhero, and at best a reluctant antihero if not exactly a total villain story, film is definitely a breath of fresh air with too many superhero movies out there these days.

This drama and romance, A Star Is Born, faced off against Venom. The Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper starring remake did not disappoint the audience. It actually surpassed estimates by bringing home a domestic total of $42.6 million, with another $14 million from other territories and an opening worldwide total of $56.6 million.

One cannot deny that this Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga collaboration over this classic remake of A Star Is Born results in an amazing movie and outstanding soundtracks that hold you back for more until the end of the movie.

According to Jeff Goldstein, Domestic Distribution Head at Warner Bros., says that A Star Is Born is most likely to have a long, successful course at the box office. He believes it is the kind of a movie that will stay around for months. He explains that there is plenty of room for growth more so among the younger audiences.

Moreover, some of the other domestic movie options over the weekend were Smallfoot, which earned $14.9 million during its second weekend and a total of $42.7 million in two weeks, Night School earned $12.2 million during its second weekend and a total of $46.7 million, and lastly The House With A Clock In Its Walls made $7.2 million during its third weekend and a domestic total of $55 million.
